Improving the school nutrition environment is on everyone’s mind these days. Vermont and New Hampshire food co-ops* have joined together with schools and other community organizations to gather resources that can be used to help move your local school towards healthier eating.
The resources we’ve identified are divided into three main areas:
For Parents: information on healthy snacks, shopping guide, reliable nutrition advice, and guidance for providing children with healthy food
For Teachers: curriculum ideas, reliable sources of nutrition information, and food and nutrition classes taught by Co-op staff
For Food Service: training and supportive resources, local colleagues to call for information, wholesale and retail sources of whole foods
We encourage everyone who is interested in improving the eating habits of children to explore these Healthy Eating Resources.
By sharing these resources, our communities can work together towards providing better nutrition for our children.
*Food co-ops are consumer-owned businesses designed to provide their members, shoppers, and communities with products that meet their needs and expectations, information they can trust, and practical solutions to common concerns. Because they are owned by the people who shop in them, food co-ops advocate for consumers and the communities in which they live.
