The Co-op Dairy Day Is Saturday!

Come to the Lebanon Co-op on Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for our annual family-favorite celebration of all things dairy. Dairy Day features free food samples from Upper Valley producers like ice cream, frozen yogurt, yogurt, cheese, beverages, watermelon, and more. There’s free entertainment too, of course, with hayrides, games, face-painting, and fabulous local musicians under the tent. One note about safety: All Co-op Dairy Day activities take place in the Centerra Marketplace parking lot. There will be tents, tables, chairs, delivery trucks, and many more cars and pedestrians than usual that day. Please use caution!
Edgewater Farm
Plainfield, New Hampshire
The temperature is headed into the 90s, and the fruit is gently warm in the hands of the pickers. Before lunch on an average day in strawberry season, the folks at Edgewater Farm will harvest 800 quarts of strawberries, many of them for sale at the Co-op. Pooh and Anne Sprague have been raising strawberries along the shady banks of the Connecticut River since 1974. Over time, the operation grew to include other summer fruits and vegetables, as well as extensive greenhouses and pick-your-own.

Whew, this economy is a killer, isn’t it? Gas prices through the roof. High food costs. And the winter utility bills aren’t even here yet. What’s a consumer to do? Take a Co-op Class! Shop Smart. Eat Well. Save Big! is a class offered by Co-op Food and Nutrition Educator Mary Saucier Choate that teaches secrets to saving up to 40 percent on your grocery bill. This is not a cooking class, although snacks based on the strategies will be served and recipes provided. And that’s only the beginning, of course.
