Mascoma Watershed Conservation Council

April 2008 Co-op Community Partner

In 1998, a group of residents living in the Mascoma watershed area of Grafton County, New Hampshire, came together to identify and monitor wildlife and their habitat in the area.

Realizing the potential of such an idea, the group formed a non-profit organization dedicated to area habitat conservation and education. The Mascoma Watershed Conservation Council (MWCC) was born.

The watershed area includes Mascoma Lake, Mascoma River, and their tributaries as they flow into the Connecticut River. In collaboration with governmental and other groups, MWCC:

  • identifies, maps, and monitors wildlife habitat;
  • gathers and analyzes data about natural resources; and
  • provides assistance to landowners interested in conservation.

Today, the small group of early volunteers has grown to more then 100 members, each dedicated to land conservation and promoting understanding of the Mascoma watershed’s resources.
