Warner, New Hampshire
If you are looking for a home where the buffalo roam, look to Warner, New Hampshire, where Brian and Kiera Farmer graze a herd of buffalo (bison) in their own back yard.
Buffalo meat is low in fat and high in omegas 3 and 6. Brian and Kiera raise their animals on a natural diet, with no added hormones, chemicals, or antibiotics—qualities that appeal to health-conscious customers.
Buffalo can also contribute to the health of Upper Valley farmland. “They are great for returning overgrown pasture land to fields,” says Brian, who also raises and sells breeding stock. “They are low-maintenance and hardy animals.”
The couple’s two-year-old daughter, Kaylee, has grown up eating her family’s product. “Her height is off the charts,” says her proud father. “We say it’s the buffalo meat.”
The Co-op meat departments carry USDA-inspected, fresh ground buffalo year-round.
